How dinner works on the Bukit, from the warungs that close when the food runs out to the long tables worth booking early.
Eating here means a short ride. VELA sits inland, in the grove, so almost everywhere worth a table is a scooter or a car away rather than a walk. That reads like a drawback until the first evening, when the ride down through Pecatu in the dark turns into part of the meal.
Start with the warungs. Warung Local at Padang Padang does the nasi campur everything else gets compared to: point at what you want, watch it pile up, pay somewhere between IDR 30,000 and 60,000. Warungs open early and stop when the food runs out, so they are safer at lunch than late at night.
For a longer table, the peninsula keeps a handful of places we send friends to. The Cashew Tree at Bingin puts garden tables under the trees and a band on Thursdays, around IDR 80,000 to 150,000. Mana cooks over wood in a garden that glows after dark, closer to IDR 100,000 to 200,000. La Baracca is loud, happy Italian, proper pizza and a cold Aperol after a day in the water. Book the early sitting in high season, because the good ones fill.
Mornings are their own category. Suka Espresso pours the best flat white on the peninsula and is busy by nine, so go before that. Drifter at Padang Padang is a surf shop, gallery and cafe at once, and worth the ride for the boards alone. Breakfast comes to your terrace here, which makes going out a choice rather than a necessity. That is roughly the right way to think about eating on the Bukit.
